| Travel has taken a quantum leap, and one can stop anywhere, anytime to touch, feel and taste all that you are experiencing, because you are in a helicopter....... The journey has become a kaleidoscope of new values, memories and emotion............... " CAPE POT POURRI ITINEARY " Depart scenic Cape Town for the serenity of the Boland up past Du Toitskloof between the Hex River Valley Mountains and dwarfed by the Kwadouswberg to the lovely town of Worcester. After sampling a vintage wine or two near De Doorns, we fly over the expanses of the Greater Karoo and into "Die Koup" to Matjiesfontein Village, which boasts the finest collection of buildings reflecting a Victorian era. At the Lord Milner Hotel, one can but wonder at the extent of that colonial influence, as one hears of the visits to the town of such luminaries as CJ Rhodes, Lord Randolph Churchill and even the Sultan of Zanzibar. One may be surprised at the grave in the cemetery of Major-General Wauchope who was killed in the famous battle of Magersfontein. View the village from the top of a double-decker London bus, have a drink in the Laird's Arms, or a coffee in The Coffee House. Enjoy the Rainbow Culture. Once again take offinto the blue skies in search of"Die Hel", a secretive valley where Boer families hid themselves from the 'Great Wars' and lived in total isolation from the rest of the world for nearly a 100 years. We land at the hamlet of Prince Albert, on the very slopes of the Swartberg. Though the town is well known for its fruit, in 1890 it was the scene of a frenetic gold rush, when nuggets were discovered in the district. Here, guests can make acquaintance with dinosaur fossils, observe the wonder of the Southern night skies from the observatory, marvel in a magnificent mineral collection, hear stories of the Boer War, perhaps attend the Olive festival and even see the haunted painting of Delville Wood. A highlight would be to spend some time with the colourful, unhurried locals. Then we wing away, through the breathtaking Swartberg Pass, built by Thomas Baines to the spectacle of the Cango Caves and its world-renowned dripstone creations of stalagmites and stalactites, before heading out to spend time at the ostrich capital of the world, Outshoorn.Depart through breathtaking passes and into The Garden Route to Plettenberg Bay's seaside playground. At "Plett", which was first used as a place of safety by survivors of the Sao Goncalo in 1630, one may in season watch in wonder at the whales (July to December) also safe now from the Norwegian Whalers (1912) or trek to the Tsitsikamma Forest to sample unforgettable 'treetop walks' and abseiling, explore the Storms River mouth and, for the non faint-hearted, partake in the highest bungy jump in the world! Take a guided walk in the famous Robberg Reserve to watch the sun go down over the Indian Ocean. On our return journey flying a section along this magnificent coast we cross inland to '5 star Sonbona big 5 game lodge' where they have white lions as a special attraction as a taste to the game experience of South Africa. Stop for the night and then on south as we are reminded of whom we are when we stand at the southernmost point of the continent at Cape Agulhas. Then skim over the crashing sea, playground of whales, dolphins and seals, to stop in at the seaside town of Hermanus. We could add in shark cage diving here if desired. On the final morning we complete our journey through the Overberg and return to Cape Town, stopping as the fancy catches us at destinations such as Greyton and Franschoek (French Glen), or see Simon's Town from the heights of Gordon's Bay; complete the circle of the journey where the two oceans meet. Southern Africa is a world in one country…Experience Reality Squared "everything" is possible as its all tailor made to suit your individual requirement. This trip would be a 5day 4 night safari and prices are available on request. |
